Just the job - police seek new recruits at Job Scene Bristol 2007

10 April 2007

Anyone interested in a career with the police should head along to the Job Scene event at the Marriott Hotel, Bristol, on Friday and Saturday April 20-21 2007.

Police officers, Special Constables, Police Community Support Officers and police staff will all be there to share their experience of the job with anyone considering the police force as a career.

Paul Mason, assistant personnel officer with Avon and Somerset Constabulary, said: “You don’t have to become a police officer to work for the force. There’s an amazing range of jobs on offer within the organisation, and all of them play an important role in our efforts to keep people safe and make them feel secure.”

Each day the force’s stand will be staffed by representatives from a range of roles:
• Special Constables – volunteers who give up their free time to carry out policing duties.
• Police Community Support Officers – the uniformed colleagues of police officers, working as part of neighbourhood teams, offering a highly visible, accessible presence on our streets. They tackling nuisance, anti-social behaviour and other quality of life issues, giving police officers more time to target criminals.
• Police staff – there is a huge range of jobs within the organisation, providing essential support to front-line staff. Roles include administration, call centre, detention officer, project officer, secretarial, handyperson, delivery driver and many more.

There will be personnel staff on hand at the event who can explain the force’s flexible working options. These include outreach workers who are trying to build contacts with under-represented groups to encourage them to consider a career with the police.

Paul said: “We are an equal opportunities employer and welcome applications from everyone. We are keen for our workforce to more accurately reflect the make-up of the communities we serve so we have a better understanding of the issues they face. If you think you’d like to work for us but have any concerns come along to the Marriott and have a chat about it.”

The stand will also feature a wireless Internet kiosk which will enable visitors to access the force website – including the jobs which are currently available.

The police stand will be open from 11am to 6pm on Friday April 20 and 10 am to 4pm on Saturday April 21 2007. More information on force recruitment, including this event, can be found on the website, www.avonandsomerset.police.uk
